DOGGY DENTAL, WHO KNEW!

Did you know that brushing your pet's teeth is just as important as brushing your own? I didn't. I recently brought my maltese, Comet, to the vet for a checkup and the doctor asked me how often I brushed his teeth. Hmmmm....never! She told me that by not brushing his teeth I'm putting him at risk for oral disease and other more serious health problems that affect the heart, lungs and kidneys!! WHAAAT!! I felt like such a bad mommy! After I got home I jumped on the computer and did some research. Sure enough I came across tons of articles stressing the importance of doggy dental care. I wanted to share some of what I found with my fellow dog lovers because I think it's something we should all be aware of!

Ewww doggy breath! We always kid about it, but it could actually be a sign of an infection. If left untreated, it could lead to the more serious problems I mentioned above. The AAHA Dental Care Guidelines recommend that you bring your pup in for oral checkups annually where your vet can give their teeth a good cleaning, but  it doesn't stop there.  It's our job to regulary brush our babies teeth.  Believe it or not, dental health can add as much as five years to your pet's life...and who wouldn't want that for their best friend!  Whether your pup is still a puppy or full grown, its not too late, START BRUSHING!
